If you've never heard of it before, a SEO (Search Engine Optimization) ranking is how your website is presented in search results. A higher ranking means your website shows up higher in the search engine lists.
For example, if you run a website detailing a local pet groomer’s, a search for groomer’s in your area will probably bring you up as a result. This is important for you to get new customers and new visitors to your website.
How do you improve your SEO ranking? A couple of tips are below:
- Use appropriate keywords on your site. Those keywords are the search terms users input to get results. Using the groomer example again, you probably have your website peppered with terms like “dog groomers” and “San Diego” if that’s where you live. Putting these keywords in naturally means you get a higher ranking. However, be careful to not “stuff” your website with keywords as that will penalize your website.
- Get more clicks on your website. The more visitors you have, the more search engines rank your relevance to a certain search term. How you go about getting more visitors is up to you. The most popular way is to use online advertisements to get clicks. This in turn drives up your visitor count, which in turn also gives you a higher relevancy ranking on the search engines. Do be careful not to spam potential visitors, however. Spamming is illegal and will also drive visitors away than entice them to visit. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar!
